I speak to You from the heart and God’s word as I share…
“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Thessalonians 5:23
This scripture brings to mind a sense of balance. There is much to be said for balance! Balance is quite necessary for the functioning of our cars, homes and our bodies. This scripture presents with a process of sanctification and cleanliness of the spirit, soul and body.
Ones may ask “how can this be done? Temporarily dividing the three here is the solution…
Body: Beginning with the body we begin with our most tempted entity… therefore the dilemma. Our thoughts are most times put into action! Whether it be of food, pleasure or a relationship. There is a need we believe which is in need of satiating. This is perhaps where we are most befuddled based on the rate of gossiping, slandering, obesity and jealousy… just to capture an ounce of the misguided decisions we can make on a daily basis.
We do become frantic at times with a dire need for “that next action of our body” whether it be right or wrong. This affects the balance of our being. When we follow the desire of the body we take along with it, the soul and spirit. Let’s define the soul and spirit for clarification purposes.
Spirit: our relationship with the Lord… When we are here our thoughts are at peace.
“His spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children” Romans 8:16 NLT
Soul: our mind will and emotions. Being made in the likeness of God, our body soul and spirit are all in one as Christ. “hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the LORD is one!” Dt.6:4 NASV
Balance comes from from none other than being in the presence of the Lord! Follow the spirit and the soul and body will follow. Let’s face it, emotions change and so do our bodily needs and desires, but the spirit of the Lord does not change.
I was once told by wise mentor “never let anyone define you” remembering Only the Lord has and will continue to during in the sanctification process.
